About Us
Lok Seva Sangam ( LSS) is an NGO registered under the FCRA and Public Trust Acts and was founded in 1976 by Fr. Carlo Torriani and Late Sr. Luigina Marchesi.
The organisation works to bring better health and education to the underprivileged.
LSS began its journey with the control of leprosy in the L and M wards of Mumbai covering a population of 2.5 million and has, through its dermatological mobile clinics , cured 30000 patients since then.
As children of leprosy patients were not admitted to schools, LSS started 4 pre-primary education centres. These centres exist till date with an addition of tutorial classes for children from Class 1 to 8 and drop outs. LSS, through its donors, sponsors their education till the 10th or 12 Grades and in some cases even till graduation.
In 2003, the organisation took up the control of Tuberculosis , treating till 2014, 1300 patients every year, 87% of them successfully. It has since then strived to change the dietary habits of the patients and their families with a view to boosting immunity and preventing the spread of the disease.
Besides working in health, LSS has a Family Development programme and A Woman and Child Care Mobile Clinic.
LSS has a Board of Trustees and staff strength of 80 which includes Doctors, Paramedical and Social Workers, Admin and Drivers.
